Ursa - Aldershot, West End Centre Saturday 16th December 2001
Christmas is nearly upon us, and so it is time for the joint JBMTS / Geromino Xmas party - thinly disguised as an excuse to put on a gig with their current favorite bands… all brought together with at least five minutes to spare. Nice work Steve and Barney!

The people are milling happily around in the bar, with mince pies and satsumas being littered around the tables at strategic times - just incase a bun fight breaks out.

Steve announces over the tannoy that Ursa are now on stage. We saunter towards the small hall only to find it locked. Steve arrives two minutes later embarrassingly unlocking them to let the sell out audience inside.

There are many here who know the power of Ursa, but there are far more that are completely unaware of what will be drilling into their brains by the end of the set.

This is without doubt the best and fullest sound I have witnessed them play with, and it suits. You know the times when you see a band and the sound is just perfect? You can hear all the instruments; you can feel your chest beating with the movement of air from the speakers - this was one of those times.

Kyham, resplendent with his newfound tinsel headband, hits those poor drums so hard that you can almost see the skins buckling under the pressure. The drum riser carpet is moving, the crash cymbal stand has a mind of it's own and is slowly creeping away from the punishment that the octopused-armed one delivers. Jodie and Wayne bounce guitar riffs between one another until your brain explodes with the sheer overload. All the while Paul is pumping out those fhat bass-lines, complimenting Kyhams' destruction of the bass pedal.

Half the crowd is happy - half are frightened. I'm knackered but fulfilled. If you only go and see one new band next year - see Ursa.
