This gig really does seal their reputation to be the UK's heaviest band; with complicated rifts and quick time changes, they can give any of the current crop of imported US bands a proper run for their money. It's a shame that no one knows who they are outside of London, but when the long awaited LP finally comes to fruition, that may change. I hope so. Oxes then followed with their usual mix of heavy thrashing music and on (and off) stage antics. Chris (the drummer) did make the dry comparison about the London crowds, by speaking in a downbeat slower tone to the audience. This was no doubt in reference to the London crowd's ability to be rather aloof at gigs, as the previous night in Birmingham was a near riot. Various members of Les Savy Fav were noticed in the audience, and Nat seized the opportunity to grab Syd (bassist) and get him to carry him on his shoulders around the venue. During the encore Chris coaxed Harrison Haynes (Les Savy Fav drummer) on stage to share the drumming, before letting him loose on his own. Nat and Mark then sourced out Seth Jabour (guitar) and Syd Butler from the audience, handing them their guitars. They then continued to play together for 10 minutes or so, while the Oxes guys took photos. It seems that when Oxes and Les Savy Fav played in Scotland they had decided to set-up a tour together in the future and interact with each other while playing - seems this was a little taste of things to come. If only all nights could be this good! skippy |
