Seafood - London, Garage Tuesday 21st November 2000
Another day, another Seafood gig. Not content with going to see the 'Food at the ever so sweaty Oxford Point on the Saturday for the 'secret warm-up', I had to bowl down to the Garage, to catch them play a big sound system.

Things started off in normal Seafood fashion, when David played a few chords of an un-named new track as the opener. The guitar wasn't tuned correctly by their ever-present guitar tech Alex. Apparently this was the first time he'd ever got it wrong, but as this was his last night with the band, all was forgiven. (Or was this a joke played on David - we will never know). This was a nice quiet new song that had David finding a new noise with the guitar feeding back from the amp, and sounded like a fucked up police siren. This lulled us into the set, before pounding out ears later.

The second new number 'Similar Assassins' was played half way through the set, and mark my words, this is single material. It started of with a nice pretty section, before blasting in to all out mayhem, and then rounding out to finish as it started. Very nice!

The last new song 'Cloaking' was all out rock noise. Smart! At the end of 'Folk Song Crisis' David threw himself into the crowd.

The set was similar to the one played in Oxford, with the exception of adding a great version of 'Psychic Rainy Nights' for the close to sell out crowd.

Their playing just seems to get better and better, and they just get more and more confident with each show. (I'm sure I saw Charles crouch down during one number!) The recent trip to Japan and the USA has certainly done them no harm I'm sure. Even the old songs, are played with even more ferociousness than in the old days. Even the crowd were singing along to some of the songs - not just a few people but loads. But there are still the odd few people who insist on shouting for the old songs as the new ones are introduced - don't they realise that the old ones were once the new ones? Twats!

Things can now only get bigger and better. Great spotting Simon!
