Ursa / Reverend Pike - London, Upstairs at the Garage Friday 17th November 2000
There were only about twenty people here tonight - good and bad I guess.

Bad, because it's always hard for a band to play when there's no one in the audience, as it becomes more like a rehearsal as there is no reaction from the crowd. The reason for the poor turn out? Well there were only two bands on, instead of the normal three, and a Friday night can always be tricky. The first band, Reverend Pike, did a very bad impression of the Flying Lizards. Coarse, barky vocals from the female singer became very tiresome very quickly.

Good? Well, because there weren't very many people here to experience Ursa. Don't get me wrong, I love this band but they just had a bad gig. Jody's guitar strings broke during two different songs (the same string), and they had a couple of false starts to numbers, combined with a few patchy bits. This band do have potential, and I will certainly see them again, but I have seen them play better. It was just one of those nights that all bands however big or small have. A shame, yes, but they will look back on this gig as another experience and laugh. Laugh - because they have the upper hand on most of the small bands plying the circuit at the moment, and their time will come. Watch out for them.

Hey - the demo even got played at the Max Tundra / American Heritage / Geiger Counter gig this week - high praise indeed!
