Twist - London, Water Rats Thursday 3rd October 2000
This was the first time I had been to see twist play, I'd heard the odd track on a car stereo here and there, and I liked what I heard, so I was intrigued to see how they would do it live. I usually hate going to gigs in London, especially as the Water Rats is run by one of the most mercenary promoters in town; it costs £400 to hire the place, even if all you want to do is piss in the toilets, and they have the most aggressive 'door staff' of any of the London gig venues, but I thought "fuck it, I'll do a dirty protest in the toilets just before I leave."

Twist were awesomely good. If you think their records are great, wait 'till you see them play, they really tear it up from the first to last note of their set. I have no idea what any of the tracks were called, but it didn't matter a bit, as they were all ace. They introduced a few tracks as 'new', but they also sounded amazing, just as hard as all the rest of the tunes on the night.

It's not that often to get a whole group of girls who wanna rock this hard, the odd singer or guitarist maybe, but not the whole band, but Twist can play the lazy asses off of most boy indie bands, who still think they can just turn up with a fringe, an attitude and ribs sticking out of their tee-shirts and act 'cool'. FUCK YOU BOYS, you have it fucking easy, and up against these girls, most of you skinny ass bands don't come close.

Twist don't take the easy road, they play hard, loud and with inspiring spirit and adventure, and the vocal harmonies on some of the tracks make you feel that they could break through to a much larger audience, which would be just fucking fantastic.

This band plays each note as if it were the most precious thing around, and it's bands like this who make going to gigs in London worth it. I for one wish they'd come back soon.

Twist. Go see. They're awesome.
