Part Chimp - s/t [lp] Rock Action
More decidedly macho dumb rock, FUCK yes. This is the latest band from London's Mr. noisy Tim Cedar, formerly main man in Ligament (if you haven't heard this band go and search out everything they did and kick yourself in the ass for not seeing them live), and contributor to such aural assaults as Penthouse, Quickspace, Scarfo, the Loveblobs and numerous one off efforts (all of which by the way were banned from one particular London venue for being far too loud). Here he decides that whilst playing the scuzziest groovy, fucked up guitar music in living memory in Ligament was all well and good, it just wasn't loud enough and what it really wants is ANOTHER guitarist with his pedal set to, "deafen everyone in the room." Nice.

Produced by John Cummings of Mogwai, and released on Mogwai's own label, those expecting soundscaping of a similarly dull nature will probably be killed by the first song, except perhaps if they were after scraping the sound off one of those huge chalk hill pictures of a giant with a big club and a massive cock, in which case that's pretty much spot on!

There are essentially two songs on this album a slow one and a fast one. The slow one, (i.e. ‘Ex Ladyboy’) goes duh duh duh (*clean guitar) SPPPPAPKGKASJAH (loud guitar) followed by tortured yelling.

The fast one on the other hand generally starts with some drums from fellow ex Ligament chap and the most sensible man in the world (he turned down the offer of drumming for Placebo), Hamilton Industries, and then goes GHASHAHGHASHSHSHSHS and your speakers bust. e.g. ‘Chimp Happy?’, ‘Hitler's And Jews’, (sample lyric "too many Hitlers rounding up Jews, too many hippies stealing my shoes." Both forms have their merits - mainly that they are loud, catchy, fun and sound like your stereo is breaking all the way through. The closest comparison I can make is probably Mudhoney at their most base and noisy. It's important to note that they are actually all fairly catchy accessible tunes just played at the very limit of their endurance. BUY THIS RECORD.

At a time when most British "alternative" bands don't have one notion of a tune between them, this is frankly essential.
