Delicate AWOL - Hurray For Sugar [s]
Two records from small label Day Release Records. First up 'Hurray For Sugar'. This single has got to have some of the most beautiful songs on it that I have heard for a long time. It has quietly sung vocals with all the instruments doing their part, but in a background kind of way - how come the radio stations picked up on this? Twats!

The b-side 'Canford Heights' is more down the emo style of music. A couple of minutes of nicely built up instrumentals, not unlike Billy Mahonie, then the guitar goes off on it's own, and a howling voice descends.

Forty Shades Of Black - Belisha [s]
Same label and on to Forty Shades Of Black - another band name but this is not another band. This is the instrumental side of Delicate AWOL. 'Belisha' is a slow, fast, slow, fast number - not unlike switching a button to hear two completely different songs playing, ending with the obligatory feedback at the end.

'Sidings' starts with what as I can only describe as humming with your mouth open. Sparse notes from the guitar make this a spooky piece.

'Advanced Formula' is a straighter than the other two. Not unlike Delicate AWOL's 'Hurray...' this is easy listening music, but well executed. Do yourself a favor and buy them both.
