Twist - Aldershot, West End Centre Friday 31st March 2000
Out to the sticks tonight. Aldershot hosts many up and coming bands, and tonight is no exception. I haven't seen Twist since they were supporting The Llama Farmers and Seafood last year at the Garage. Since them they've bought out a mini album of all the singles and b sides, and what a great taster that is.

The set started off with a blistering rendition of 'Dent', and from that track alone it was obvious that the constant gigging they have been doing of late has really paid off.

Although they must hate the comparisons with Hole that they always get tagged with, it's the easiest, most obvious one to go with. The difference errs on the side of Twist though, much to their credit. Emma's voice is much stronger and clearer than Courtney's and she also plays a mean guitar. Vanessa meanwhile is still very animated in her guitar playing and it's these two that hold the eyes of the crowd, as they immerse themselves in the music. Backed by Leanne who hits the drums with great strength and timing and Lisa strumming away at the bass, the four together are a very potent force to be reckoned with.

They skip through most of the mini album, and I must say it all comes over much better live than on the stereo. Most of the audience had never seen them live before today, and all were pretty much in agreement that they kicked ass.

The only hurdle now is that bloody Hole comparison. If that can be shaken off then the future is bright.

Hold on!! Mini album of past singles... Fierce Panda... American comparisons... sounds just like the situation Seafood were in last year. Could be a good sign! Follow them and you're sorted!
