Rothko - London, Borderline Wednesday 29th September 1999
I hate making decisions like this...Idlewild and Seafood at the Astoria, or Rothko at the Borderline? Three of my favourite bands only playing a couple of hundred metres from each other. Poo! What crap organising! The Astoria gig will probably be a sell out, so I plump for Rothko, as they make their sound in such a unique way - and they are such a nice bunch too!

They are getting more and more involved with the effects pedals and backing tracks now. The sound begins to come at you from all directions, and you just never know what will happen next. Crawford took over from Mark tonight, to surprise and confuse the audience in between 'songs.' "This next one's for A.A.Milne." And so it went on...each track dedicated to a children's author. You could hear people whispering "What did he say?", "For who?". You could almost see the smirks from the three band members as the crowd turned to each other with quizzical looks on their faces.

I was a good turn out for a support act. Most of the crowd were paying attention, (except Sean Hughes, who was still lurking at the back, sitting at a table - shame on you Sean!), and by the time the set came to an end the applause was big and appreciative. Rumour has it that they will play onstage with Cay soon. Keep track of this site for more details!

Next time put Idlewild, Seafood and Rothko on together!
