McLusky / Reuben - London, Garage Saturday 14th September 2002
Like I’ve said before – Reuben will go far. Period!

McLusky on the other hand should already have gone far. Their music is simple yet effective. It’s like the band you wish you could form with your mates and just have a laugh. It teeters on the edge of insanity and seems to use few chords. So how does this make a good band? They have passion flowing from every pore (not to mention sweat) and are simply mesmerising on stage.

The music is pretty straight with the shouty vocals shared between the guitarist and the mental bass player. It’s heavily reliant on harsh loud bass lines that often take the lead from the guitar, and is guaranteed to get the crowd jumping around. They kind of remind me of Tribute To Nothing in the style of their playing, crossed with that other Lockjaw oddity, Monkey Boy, with their heavy and harsh bass line and general good humoured having fun attitude.

Both these bands could be big – very big. I’d get out and see then before they go and start playing the bigger venues.
