Fiji - London, Falcon Thursday 2nd September 1999
This was the first live excursion for Fiji - the previous date of 9th August, Upstairs at the Garage, having been cancelled at the last minute. In case you didn't know, the man behind this project is Jamie Hince, the driving force behind Scarfo. (The greatest band that never made it). The first thing Jamie did was to make the crowd come down to the front of the stage...I don't know why, but there always seems to be a empty space between the crowd and the stage when the audience doesn't know the music.

I can't give any titles to the tracks, because only a single has been released at this time. The distinctive guitar sound and voice of Jamie, reminiscent of the old Scarfo, are there though. When it was time to play the current single 'Cattlecount' the drum and kazoo were played from a backing track. (We can forgive this at this early stage.....after all the Cocteau Twins used to do the same). It came across as a very powerful, catchy tune...it gets in your head eventually, and won't go away!

All in all a very good performance, and at this early stage could well be a band to look out for in the future. I'll certainly check- out their next gig.
