Audioscope all-dayer - Oxford, The Zodiac Saturday 1st September 2001
There I was, going to the Zodiac for an all-dayer, thinking that it was a bit of a large venue for this kind of gig - wrong, they've got another venue on the ground floor! So here goes for an ultra quick synopsis of the bands.

The Starries - noisy, but nowhere near the panache of their former touring partners Idlewild.

Econoline - surprised all who hadn't seen them before with their great tunes. Should have been further up the bill so that more people could have seen them.

Headcount - three hard looking yobs who sound like The Stranglers doing heavy metal - surprisingly good tunes and a good laugh.

Stumble - the name says it all.

Saloon - a bit too twee for me. The burning question was… how did she sing without opening her mouth?

Dustball - oh yeeesss! This was one of the highlights. Good tunes and a singer with an excellent voice. Check them out when you get the chance. They even had the England vs Gemany football game on for the audience, and at one point in the middle of a song, the singer looked over to the TV and shouted "fucking 3-1".

Kaito - had the whole room jumping - even the 'ikke indie kids. Everyone was smiling, and they really should have headlined.

Avrocar - we are told that they don't often play live - now we know why.

Meanwhile, Back In Communist Russia - why?

skippy
