Billy Mahonie Discography Reviews

Whistling Sam [s]
Clean Shaven Fanzine "...What speed does this bugger actually play at? Who knows. Crazy kids. This is wild and fabulous, in a way, via Nub and Slint and a whole boiling kettle full of heavy metal steam that rises when 'Whistling Sam' hits its final frenzied peak. 'On The Brinck' is an altogether milder, misspelt post-rockily funky affair. That must be a first. Oh, there is Tortoise and Ganger I guess. And tonnes more probably. Oops. Plus I want more meercats on record sleeves. I like them." Pete Flynn

Little Feet [s]
Clean Shaven Fanzine "...Billy Mahonie blew me away recently when I caught them live, and this is of similar bloodthirsty quality. It's an absorbing instrumental melding of post rock stealth, emo sharpness, and the big rock pounce that devours you at the end of ‘Are We Rolling’ that is just a hint of their quality. The lead title track misleads, but is luring enough + 'Man With The Woman Head' is wonderfully measured. BM are starting to capture their sound better on record now, and it’s awesomely promising, especially with a debut album almost there too." Pete Flynn

World Inaction [s]
Clean Shaven Fanzine "...Superb, building up and detonating at the right moment, as anyone who heard Billy Mahonie's Peel Session version of 'World Inaction&' earlier this year would already know. It has a real vital edge to it, just like it does live. The splendidly titled 'Let Them Eat Shit' is all paranoid chords going into metal territory. Very sharp. Then we are treated to a pair of tracks from their German cousins Jullander on the other side too. Darker sounding, less urgent, but relatively similar too, 'Enderlin' is pensive and holds a feint candle to Slint, whilst the saxophone accompaniment to 'Hannah' recalls solemn Morphine moments a little. Very interesting." Pete Flynn
